Pole dancing - which pole should I buy?
Have you read our article "Pole Dancing - The Art of Erotic Dance"? Great! Now you want to buy a pole? Even better! But you don't know which one? No problem, we'll explain what's available.
But first, we would like to share this wonderful video with you:
First, we will explain to you what types of rods there are, namely purely static rods, rods that are static and rotating, rods that are either pressure-mounted or free-standing, and what rod diameters and designs there are, as well as what material a rod can be made of.
Freestanding poles can be set up virtually anywhere, indoors and outdoors, as in the video, because they don't have an attachment point at the top. These poles have their own platform and are super easy to set up. The only requirement for indoor use is a certain minimum ceiling height.
If you click on the image, you will receive detailed information:
Pressure-mounted poles , as the name suggests, are mounted between the floor and ceiling using pressure. They are usually significantly cheaper to purchase because, unlike freestanding poles, they don't have their own platform.

Now there are purely static poles – they're perfect for beginners. They'll help you get used to the feel of pole dancing, practice basic techniques, learn how to balance and develop your own momentum, and use muscles you didn't know you had!
The perfect pole for beginners is the X-Pole Sport – it's affordable and easy to assemble – and it's the perfect way to start your pole dancing adventure!

Most pole dancers use poles that can be used both statically and in rotation. Poles that rotate on their own axis allow for moves that you can't perform with a static pole. Furthermore, when performed correctly, the moves look extremely elegant and sometimes even fast-paced.
The most popular pole, which can be used both statically and rotating, and is widely used by amateurs, enthusiasts, and professionals alike, is the X-Pole Xpert —I use this pole myself, and it's really great!

Now the question arises as to the diameter . X-Pole poles come in two sizes: 40mm and 45mm . But what's the difference?
45mm is the standard and most commonly used pole diameter. Poles in pole dance studios and at competitions always have a 45mm diameter. Poles with a 40mm diameter are said to be more suitable for beginners with limited grip strength, children with smaller hands, and petite athletes. It's a matter of preference, but I recommend training with a 45mm pole from the start. I myself have limited hand strength and small hands, but I also train with a 45mm diameter – this way, you build your strength right away and don't have to switch from a 40mm pole to a 45mm pole. But of course, the decision is entirely up to you!
The last question we want to answer here is the question of the rod material.
Chrome – The poles are made of stainless steel, chrome-plated, and polished to a high gloss. This is the industry standard and a good all-rounder for all dance levels.
Stainless steel – a great alternative to chrome or brass and very durable. Pure stainless steel poles are also suitable for polers with nickel allergies and are ideal for commercial environments (studios and gyms) with large numbers of dancers, as they are very easy to clean. The stainless steel poles are also polished to a high shine.
Brass - ideal for hotter climates as the grip factor increases with the ambient temperature, and is the perfect choice for those allergic to nickel.
Titanium Gold – Here, the pole dance poles are electronically coated with a titanium gold finish. The advantage of this coating is the increased grip compared to pure chrome or stainless steel poles.
Powder coating – useful for people who have difficulty gripping regular metal poles. Very high grip factor! The steel poles are powder-coated and baked to seal the surface. And these poles look extremely good! Available from X-Pole in black, white, and pink!
Silicone – the ultimate grippy bar! The steel bars are covered with a silicone sleeve. Contact between skin and bar should be kept to a minimum, as the silicone provides a very good grip and prevents skin from sliding along the bar.
Here is another picture of the poles in different materials:

Personally, I recommend a chrome or stainless steel bar—they're durable and easy to clean—and, in my opinion, feel the best.
Clean your pole after each use with a special cleaner and a microfiber cloth !
So, now you're ready for your pole dancing journey! Start now, you won't regret it!
